Breeds that root less, and Books

    In my earlier post below someone said that certain pigs root more than others. Which ones don't root as much? Any info would be appreciated.

    Also what books do you guys like about pigs? I have "Small-scale Pig Farming" on the way.

    The only live pig that I have ever seen that did not root was either wearing a couple of rings in its nose or had the cartilage cut from the top of its snout. Removing the cartilage when the pig is very young is a lasting remedy to rooting.

    Like above. All healthy pigs will root. It's just that smaller pigs dont dig as deep as the larger ones. even potbellies will turn over the sod
