What breed of bees do you keep and why?

We keep SMR Carnolions mostly. Because they are slightly :D mite resistant. Shut down earlier in the fall and build up fast in the spring. They over winter in this area a bit better than the Itialian colonies we have.

We have Itialians because Kare  won a hive of them at last years {2004} bee comferance and a swarm was given to us in 2003 that is still alive this spring.

    :D Al

Italians for fast bee production for splitting. Also allows for early splitting in late winter/early spring. The only thing I hate about Italians is that they are the WORST robbers...

I think I have carnolians, very docile, had them for a year, only stung once when i got them , didnt leave the nuc alone long enough before placing them in the hive, but no stings since.
