So I've recently discovered Ginger Bugs and I think I understand that concept, but every recipe I've seen that uses a Ginger Bug says to use flip-top bottles. I was wondering if I could use wide-mouth jars? With an airlock somehow?

I understand that I would have to "burp" the drinks, I just wanted to use the jars that I already have before buying a different type of jar or bottle.

    Thanks

I don't know what ginger bugs are, but if what you're making is carbonated I wouldn't try it. You might get a bottle bomb. With an airlock it will be flat.

Since Ginger bugs do best in a sealed container, like a flip top jar, using a wide mouth jar with an air lock would not be a good substitution. As far as burping mason jars, that's just a ticking time bomb in your home. In this case you really are better off buying the new equipment to start your bugs in.
