The clicking is the CV joint. Determine if the rubber boot is busted. If not busted just let it click as it is an expensvie to repair nuisance rather than a problem. If the boot is ruptured then you need to fix it and install new lube.

The boot assembly is $329.97 (each side)

You can purchase just the cv joint for $112.97 each. The rest of the setup is clamps and the rubber boot.

Can you buy better front cv joint rubber boot protectors than the standard ones that come on the 4-wheeler?

You can get steel cv boot protectors to help save the rubber boots in the future.

I am not sure which Traxter Max that you have. Quadboss makes a pair for the 2003 Traxter Max 500cc 4x4 - $49.99.
Oxlite makes a pair for the 2004 Traxter Max - $47.99.

You may be able to look these products up online.
