Planted blackberries this spring, and thought they would be CANES?

They are growing like crazy - am I supposed to prune them so they stand up?

They are nearly 4 foot long and laying on the ground.

They are either Ouchitas or Apaches - cant remember because I ordered both, but only one kind arrived...

Thanks for any blackberry expertise! :)

Dont know the names (dont remember) on my thornless ones, but I was told first year, they wouldnt stand, and to keep them cut to 4'. I will tell you they will tip-root like crazt everywhere they touch, so if you want to corral them, start now. Ask me how I know--LOL

The tips hit the ground and stay long enough to root.

I am letting my canes grow, dh is going to go ahead and put in rebar rods for them this fall.

I am not familiar with your varieties but most blackberries have to be trained onto a trellis system or pruned to a 4 ft height and less than 3 ft width so you can access the berries. That much growth is common the first year and behold the berries to expect next year.
