a friend of mine back in Kansas has a small heard of Barbabdo sheep, this last lambing season out of the blue she has had LOTs of problems from ewes that have NEVER had problems before, she has had 3 ewes abort their lambs and one that went all stiff like riggamortise had set in but was still alive with her leggs streached out behind her, her head and neck was mobil but the rest of her was stiff as a board, she had to put that ewe down,
all this has come out of the blue she said and back when i lived down the road from her everything went perfectly. we are both confused over this and dont know what to make of it, Barbabos seam to be alot hardyer than normal sheep so this is especially confuseing, if anyone knows why they would all of a sudden start aborting and why this one ewe would go stiff a week after aborting twins it would be good to know what to do

Poisonous plants in the pasture, bad moldy hay, aflatoxin in corn being fed, hypocalcemia. Brucellosis (Brucella Abortus)?? Who knows??? Did they have a vet do a necropsy??

Nitrate poisoning in hay (due to drought), can be another cause.

Listeria from moldy feed causes abortion, so to chlamydia abortion (abortion storm) . Without a post mortem on the lambs its impossible to tell. The out stretched legs ("frog like"?) is a typical example of milk fever/calcium deficency.
