My dad called and said he found a black lizard with yellow stripes. He lives just around the corner from us.
One, I am not familiar with the wildlife around us since we've only been here two years. And two, I am not familiar with lizards period.

Anyone else who lives in this area, familiar?? Can tell me what that might be?
I think my dad's main concern is if its posionous.

Only poisonous lizard is the Gila monster in the South West. Sounds like what we here in Mid Tn. call a Skink. Probably not the correct name, but it is a black or very dark green lizard with yellow racing stripes.

From what he described it does look like that one except for the blue tail. However, from what I've been reading online the juvies usually have the blue tail. So he might have seen an adult one.

I know I've seen one running across our deck, and it had the pretty blue tail.

Thanks for the help!

Thry to keep it around. They eat incects and spiders. I have then around and even feed them everyonce in a while. They won't hurt anythingelse. I had one that would loose its tale and then would grow another one every few days. I couldn't thing of why but then I saw a bird eating his tail.
