what do you feed old does?
We have an 11 yr old Nubian who just kidded in February with healthy twins. She produced enough milk to feed them, but none extra for me to milk out.
But, that's ok!
We feed her extra of the grain mix that the others get.
Even now that her kids are weaned I am letting her in the milkroom morning and evening to eat. She just doesn't hold the weight on easily.
Mine had trips with not enough milk at 11yo....cold weather was too much...she died at Christmas time. She too had a hard time keeping wt on and was the reason the cold got her I believe. She was a heavy milker in her prime and had milked on twice (without freshening) and had 12 kids in 5 kiddings only 3 were bucks
I miss her terribly! We were lucky enough to be able to use one of her bucks(from neighbor who purchased) this fall to line breed 2 does. 3 kids and 2 were does!
Its hard to convey how grateful you are to the old girls (I wish I could speak goat!)
You might check into the Sr. Horse feeds, but go light on the molasses.
