I have this little tomcat that thinks he's a dog. He growls whenever someone pulls up on The Homestead. He loves to have his tummy rubbed and won't attack your hand, and his favorite game is fetching. Hus favorite thing to fetch is the exterior covering of Romex wire or short pieces of 1/2" pex pipe (yes the homestead house is still under construction) but he also has a collection of small sticks.

My neighbor had a cat that showed up on his porch one day. He acted about like a dog and kept the mice cleared out, so he named him "Kittypup". Unfortunately, he didn't get him fixed. So Kittypup would wander out of the kitchen in the morning and disappear for 2,3, 5 days. He would come back limping, maybe an eye swollen, etc. He would lay around for a few days before going out to do the same thing again. Each time, he would return with half an ear, or the tip of his tail missing, ready to sleep for days on end. But he always made sure there were no mice. Unfortunately, he left one morning and never returned.

I lost several cats to the mountain lions, wolves, bobcats, great owls and bears up here. This little guy is strictly a house cat and though he's a tomcat he doesn't have a single scar. I am curious how he'd react if a friend brought her fixed male cat for a visit though.

cats outside not in containment are an invasive species

cats inside are a pet

there is little exception
And according to some sources, free running cats are responsible for 2 billion song bird deaths per year.
We always have feral cats hanging around the farm, as long as they are killing rats and mice we tolerate them.
The owls and coyotes keep their numbers under control.

they are incredibly destructive to native wildlife , the exception to un-contained cats is farms large enough and far enough from any habitat of consequence

when I trap out and re-home the feral cats in my area the rabbit population Explodes , then I can't keep a pepper seeding or bean seedling hardly at all , eaten off nightly

clear out the cats and rabbits explode , see free roaming cats daily and see an adult rabbit every once in a while a few tracks in the snow.

They will probably fight with each other. Cats are not like dogs, it isn't really a good idea to try to introduce "playmates" unless they are staying permanently. They aren't pack animals and even though at one time I had 22, there were still those who preferred to stay in their own "safe zone". Some would buddy up, but mostly siblings.

Not only that, but if you make him feel threatened, he may start to spray to mark his territory. Tom cat urine is nasty and if he doesn't do it now, whatever you do, don't get him started.

I have always had at least 3 or 4 (22 was a bit much, but wasn't really my idea, people kept dumping pregnant cats at my house. I was getting them fixed and "was going to" find them homes. Well, I did. Mine) Anyway, I am the proverbial cat magnet. If there is a stray, it will come to my house. If I go anywhere, they come up to me.

I wondered about that, but he did really well when my son's dog was here for a few weeks. He even started to play with the dog.

Several of my cats play with my dog(s), but not with the other cats. Not sure if it is because it is a different species, but there has never been a problem with that. I wouldn't take a chance, especially with the unneutered status of your male.
But, if you do, good luck.

I have been told by a vet we had very odd cats , they exhibited team work that is nearly unheard of for cats , turning over a 5 gallon pail with gama -lid and unscrewing the top to get to the feed

with 4 non sibling cats only 1 sort of loaner and even that one will hang with the others
have a range of ages male and female all are fixed now but the most dog like of them was an adult Tom first , he has the Tom face , he is the one that plays with the dog and is most dog like

not at all uncommon to see two cats balled up laying together or play fighting and the pairs are not consistent at our house

they must be well fed and have no fear

only one will play with the puppy , the puppy is currently 40 pounds on it's way to 80-100 but that cat will jump an paw and retreat both playfully

The difference is that cats that have grown up around cats and a cat that is a single. Any group of cats will eventually interact with each other in different ways, but a solitary cat will generally take much longer to interact in a "friendly" way.
