My girlfriend and I (both divorced ) have been "living in sin" for several years. She is deaf, and I have been slowly learning sign. Last night I was assigned "Santa duty" for the extended family. After the obligatory distribution of gifts and goodies, I asked her to sit on my lap, then requested that she stand to allow "Santa" to get up. Santa then asked her to sit. Santa then got upon bended knee and proposed (in sign). .............................. She accepted.

Only problem I forsee is that all the nieces and nephews now think they are related to Santa!

How sweet. Had you been planning this or was it a spur of the moment deal? Good luck and all the best!!!

No problem.... just let them know that this means the fulltime Santa will ALWAYS know when they've been naughty!

    And congratulations.

My wife took classes in sign while attending college..... her "final paper" was to sign a song (tricky to do in time).... she chose "Grandma got run over by a reindeer". Still knows it, too, but has to go slow at parts.

    wonderful!!!

p.s. after you are married, don't think of the earlier period as "living in sin"

    .....think of it as a "pre-marriage" state-of-being.....congrats!!

and wishes of peace, love and harmony in your relationship

Shellbug, I really never thought of it as such. If one looks at the biblical concept of marriage, I belive that we were already married when she moved in. Her daughters call me Daddy, and I see them as my children.

    Thanks

Congrats...thank you for sharing this with us. My hearing disability drove my ex nuts as he couldn't yell from another room for me to bring him stuff. It probably helped keep me sane! My song for the final in the sign language class was "Stop in the Name of Love" and I still remember most of it, too.

What a great story! My 21 year old nephew has been deaf from 3 months old. I know and love to sign. As long as you have the "I love you" sign mastered, you'll get the rest easy!!! :goodjob:

My "signing" songs: The Lord's Prayer, This Baby, by Steven Curtis Chapman (Christmas) The Candle by Kathy Tro---something.

Yes Elisabeth, there is a Santa Clause. Of all the posts we read I am sure ones such as this warms all our hearts. Tis the season..........

I agree with shellbug. She has wonderful way to say it too.

You didn't mention the girls right off but that was, "The icing on the cake". I pray all good things for all of you. No one can do something like this or be as committed to a relationship like this without being a "Good Person".

Thanks for this Christmas Gift to all of us. Blessings, NJ Rich
