Does anyone have (or do you know any others) that have an allergy to asparagus.
I've been having occasional hives that itch terribly. I think it is a food thing. First thought it was from chocolate, but have ruled that out...But I ate fresh asparagus from the garden yesterday, and have broken out in hives again. They last for two days...and even using Benedryl like the doc recommended, it doesn't do much good.
I have never heard of this type of allergy. Has anyone else?
I guess the only cure is to not eat asparagus...but that is cruel cure as I love it AND have about 300 mature plants.
    Thank you for any input.

I've never heard of any allergies from eating it.

I'd try it again, but this time when you harvest it, wear long sleeves and rubber gloves, then change clothes as soon as you come in the house.

It may be a reaction to something external you're being exposed to in the garden.
