Anyone ever tried this. I know I can pick up blenders for 1.00 at garage sales.

I have never tried this, I have tried food processors and it did not work at all...
I had hear that you can do this with the bosch mixer that comes with the blender...but it is not recommend for it...

I have an older blender that I no longer use and I am going to give this a try, just because. Thanks for posting the link...I will let you know what I end up with, when I try it. I would like to hear what other do too... and what blenders seem to work well and what blenders do not work well.

You can use a blender to chop up lots of hard stuff....just don't expect the blender to work for very long. It takes a LOT of energy to grind up wheat/oats/corn. The motor will be churning for quite a while in order to make even 2 cups of flour....poof! there goes the motor.

not sure I could cope with the noise, either.

I use it (have for years) to grind up old fashion oats to use for half the flour in my pancake recipe. Don't know about wheat berries though.

I have always put wheat in water in the blender to make whole wheat bread: I just add white flour to it until the excess water is taken up.

I have to agree with Ann. I did try using my blender and I was able to grind grains acouple of times before the motor burned out. I tried a food processor and the same thing happened after about 5 or 6 uses. I ended up buying the Back To Basics Grain Mill. Very tiresome to use but it lasts.

I use my Vita Mix without issue. I do freeze the grains first so they don't get too hot while grinding.

Of course, the idea to grind my own wheat came long after the purchase of the Vita Mix; I could have bought a grinder for what I paid for the Vita Mix.
