I know I just saw a post where someone asked about this, but I can not find it- even by e-search!

I asked Ann why she bought a glass washboard. She peeled off 3 reasons:

    1) Metal washboards can rust, and transfer rust to clothing.

    2) Rust can be abraisive and wear away fabric.

    3) Metal washboards can be dented, and the dented area will not be there
for the material to rub against, thus a loss in efficiency would occur.

    Good deal!

We (usually Ann as I am pooped from other manual labor) do it in the warm part of the day, in the shade, when we are blessed to spend more than a week at our homestead. It takes a bit of effort, but just like cutting brush and grass with our sythe, it is quiet and relaxing.

Last time what initially looked like a snake was rustling in the leaves. It turned out to be a little brown skink. Here is a link if anyone cares to see one.

When I lived on a boat, we used the top of the Igloo cooler for a washboard. It was scored into small squares and worked fine.
