According to the results of a survey released today by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy and CosmoGirl.com, 22 percent of all teen girls — and 11 percent of teen girls ages 13-16 years old — say they have electronically sent, or posted online, nude or semi-nude images of themselves.

And these racy images are also getting passed around: One-third (33 percent) of teen boys and one-quarter (25 percent) of teen girls say they have had nude/semi-nude images — originally meant to be private — shared with them.

You know, my kids are talkers and they mostly talk to me about things that are happening with kids they know at school, and while I am pretty up with the happenings, sometimes I am still shocked. I lay in bed at night just thinking about these poor kids and what drives them to do such disturbing things. And some of the things I have heard make taking nude pictures pale in comparison. I feel sorry for them. I know someone will say these things have always happened and yes they probably have, but I truly don't think to the extent that they happen today. Remember in the Bible where Jesus felt pity for people because they seemed like a flock of sheep without a shepherd? I think many kids today need a shepherd...

Agree with you wholeheartedly Melissa. My ex called yesterday and was talking about a new sex game that teens are "playing". It was disgusting. I had never even heard that such activities existed until after I was a grown, married, woman. It just makes me wonder where the parents are and why these children have such low self-esteem.

The world has changed SO MUCH since I was growing up - and I'm only 41!!

To find someone you wanted to date, you looked around in your local area. Now with the internet, you can post online who you are looking for, what area, etc, and carry on a big conversation before you ever meet the person!

We didn't have cellphones (which now have the picture taking capability) to take a picture and text it to friends or load up on the internet for everyone to see either.

And I don't know, I think we (as a collective group) were more modest than kids of nowadays. I know of some kids in our local school that have a "sex" club. From my understanding, they get together whenever and with whomever (multiple people at a time) and go at it! I'm hearing some pictures were taken during the acts and were being sent around by cell phone and no doubt uploaded onto computers.

The thing is, it doesn't seem like any big deal to these kids!

Think divorce. Two parents divorce, not agreeing on how to parent the children. One has no control over what happens at the other's. No matter how much the one sees what's happening to the children's self esteem (or behavior), there's nothing that can be done if the custodial parent doesn't allow it. It can be a bad situation...trust me.

You failed to add re-marriage. Now you have a 'new' spouse in the mix to take more time from you. Then there's the fact kids are raised in kiddie prisons and not by their parents.

All of which tells the kid his needs are less important than the parent's.

Kids are given the msg they are worth less than that new car or boat or big screen HDTV, after all mom has to work to pay for it rather than stay home and raise a child.

I see it all the time.

I think there are so many things we can blame this on. The media, movies, music and computers have gotten so liberal. There just seems to be no "off limits" when it comes to what these kids are exposed to. Even the local news and 20/20s etc have pieces based on sex and sex crimes, child molesters, rape victims, prostitution, political sex scandals, call girls, pornography addicts, polygamist and transgender interviews, homosexual interviews, it is just non stop sex talk. They are bombarded with "free sexuality", "open sexuality", "alternative sexuality" and anything and everything goes. Morals are considered old-fashioned, out-dated, prudish, and narrow minded. Parents have been told by educators, doctors, and the government that they are not capable of raising their children on their own. You can't discipline them and the doctors, government and education system know better than you but if they get into trouble or do poorly it is of course, then the parent's fault. Not to mention there is always an excuse or some "condition" to blame things on too. Single parents or two parents working to make ends meet and coming home tired and stressed just make it even harder to keep involved in your children's lives and know what is going on.

Society is making it harder for parents to teach their children valuable lessons in responsibility and accountability. For example, in today's economy, my teenage sons cannot afford gas, car insurance and the upkeep of a vehicle with a part-time, min wage, high school job. Kids can't hold a drivers license unless they are insured. So, mom and dad are forced to pay their kids way. They buy their kid cars, or let them driver theirs, they pay for the gas, the insurance, the upkeep. How are they going to learn? I was buying many of my own clothes and school supplies and paying for my own entertainment from the time I was thirteen and earned money babysitting and mowing lawns. Things like internet, computers, mp3 players, ipods, stylish clothes, even going out to the movies are so expensive a part time after school job can't cover them. Most the movies out there are sooooo bad but going out to the movies is one of the few social things they can do in high school. The dresses the girls are starting to get for homecomings are more expensive than my wedding dress! Ugh, I could go on and on....sorry for rambling.

Basically, my take on it is, the world is getting older and groaning under the weight of sin. It will continue to get worse until judgement day comes.

What reward does the sender hope to get in sending the pictures?

We call those pictures "advertisements for home schooling." :)

Just kidding...no need to ruin all those good tomatoes by throwing them my way...

A 16 yo boy in the county north of me was just sentenced yesterday for coercing teenage girls to send him nude photos of themselves. Don't know how he forced them to do it. He gets 180 days in jail out of it and probably supervision AND he's now labeled as a sex offender for the rest of his life. How would kids like title following them around for life? They may think it's no big deal, but guess what, it IS! On your job applications, any time there is a sexual crime in your neighborhood the cops will be looking at your name on a list, etc.

Those little morons had better straighten up.

Compared to when I was a kid (I graduated in 90) I don't know that it is worse but it is definitely more open and "easier".

The same things went on but back then but you had to really put effort into making those things come about. It took time, planning and some effort. Now it's just done as a matter of course.

Back then when really freaky things went on, and it did go on back then too, it wasn't something that was really openly discussed. Sure guys might have discussed it with a few close associates but it wasn't necessarily common knowledge that an incident happened and females sure didn't volunteer the information and denied it when asked. If an incident occurred no one ran and told their parents about it. If the incident were documented on video or with pictures, and it was on numerous occasions, those things were held like nuclear command codes. They were never shown to an outsider or an unreliable person and they sure weren't freely distributed.

People also didn't go running off to tell authority figures if something happened. It seems like now no one knows how to keep their mouth shut. Perfect example is the teachers who are busted for having sex with students. That sort of thing went on when I was in High School with both male and female teachers. The difference being no one ratted anyone out. One of my closest hooligan friends back in HS was involved with a teacher. He was involved with her for several years and even after he was out of HS. The thing is, while we all knew, no one would have ever - EVER- ratted him out. We were happy for him and wouldn't mess up his good fortune. We knew a certain girl was involved with a male teacher. We never ratted them out either. She wasn't being forced or coerced or anything and she knew exactly what she was doing. Worked out pretty well too since they married shortly after she graduated and they're currently married and have a nice family. One of the happiest couples I know.

with the world the way it is today, if we don't have a connect to God and live His standards, we are lost. We can blame movies, parenting skills, etc, and I am sure they play a huge part, but I feel the bottom line is that with God we are protected from a lot of evil. Without, we are exposed to the full extent.

There is merit to what you say here, but you have to remember that God got kicked out of school (got caught smokin in the boys room maybe?) a few years ago. Our kids dont have Him to turn to like they used to.

Part of the blame can be laid at the foot of modern television series, Hollywood movies, poor parenting, and peer pressure.

Remember the multi-page thread a while back on this forum titled "Porn"?

I wonder when all the supporters of "porn" will chime in on this thread.
