Another sheep raiser in my area would like to make a trade with me, he offered 1 or 2 katahdin ewe lambs for one 7/8 or purebred white Dorper ram lamb. He wants more muscle and faster growth and I was hoping perhaps the katahdin ewes would be good mothers and more twins/triplets, are katahdins as good as mothers as he or others claim them to be? I was also hoping the katahdin blood would give more eveness of shedding

Sounds like a good trade. We had both breeds in one bottle baby; they were the greatest!

I have 50% Dorper/Katahdin ewes. I started out with 7, 2 years ago. They have given me 20 lambs from 2 breedings with NO birthing problems and NO lost lambs. Some of them have averaged almost 2 lbs per day weight gain in the first couple of months. I havent had any triplets, but most have twinned. Id happily take 2 Katahdin ewes as trade for a Dorper ram.

They have had great success crossing these breeds
