    Hi,

My daughter and I have been doing a beekeeping project for 3 years now. A couple of families have joined us but have not started their own hives. Maybe next year they will (or maybe not!).

Does anyone have any suggestions of activities that we can do at project meetings besides the basic things as discuss how bees make honey, their lifecycle, etc. We may put together the hive body and frames and such, and paint them, but that doesn't take too much time. Besides, I am not sure everyone will be doing this.

I am looking for ideas such as make beeswax soap, etc.

    Any ideas?

Making creamed honey. Making Mead. Raising your own queens with grafts. Making wax products such as candles.

Well I tell ya, I am the one who is in the need for mead when a project meeting is over. Do you know how nerve wracking it is to have a bunch of inexperienced kids around MY hive?

Make honey rootbeer. The recipe has been listed on here. Search for rootbear. Lip balm, medicinal salves, rolled comb candles, molded candles, and dipped candles all use wax. Plant a bee garden or individual pots. Make dried plant collections. Do hand drawn charts of different types of bees and hiving techniques. Make an old time skep out of broom sedge. Make bee veils/suits. Do t shirts with bee themes....
