Hi.

Spring around the corner now :)

Was in Walmart today. They got some nice clearances.
I finally found me a few clothes. More winter type stuff
but that's good. $ 1 each x 4.
Did get a couple of those cold whole chickens. $ 3.55 each
is real cheap for cooked meat. Have not seen that for
awhile.

Took my truck in for a checkup today. The check engine
soon. light came on the other day. I was not taking any chances.
Turned out to be a broke clamp on the air box. He said he
zip tied it for me. And no charge. Boy do I really like this mechanic :)

Got to thinking of my notebook log that I keep.
One line per day. Across the top of each page, is meter reading, kwh used
, weather, vehicle if it was used that day, and laundry, how much.
I also note a few other things, like if we switch out a propane tank.
And when we start the outside furnace for the winter and when we shut it down.
usually in May. And when we get a load of wood. Easy to check if I need a
answer to something.

So going to start a medical notebook This one won't be everyday, just dates
when I go to a doctor or maybe a test , etc. Any medicines.
And I will keep it in a ziplock with the printed pages from the doctor's office.

Adding to my medical journal idea.
I collected the paperwork and sorting it. And READING it.

I have found 2 oops in less than a month for medicine.
If I could see the same doctor each time,
but no, I have seen 3 different medical people in the
same office recently because the doc was booked up.
So you get to bring, the new person to you up to speed.
Beginning to think I am a guinea pig.

Had to run errands with the Mister today. Which is always interesting
and stresses me. It is what it is.
Had a item he needed. Only one store locally has it.
And that is a Dollar Tree. Found his item and bought several.
Went to the other Dollar quarter store. This one you never know
what you might find. The regular stuff and then a few surprises now
and then. Today was excellent. Found boxes of good latex gloves
50 in box for 1.25 each, got 4 of them. Then found some other
gloves that will work good in the kitchen. 100 per box. Got 2.
The gloves I really like are 100 per box and last I bought were
$ 7 a box. Used to be $ 4.50. Then during covid they went to
$ 20 a box. I did not buy any at that price.
Just trying to fill in holes in pantry.
Did find gravy in jars, the bonus size, for the $ 1.25 each. He got 4.
If I go in store by myself, $ 10 is my limit. With him, always $ 20 or close.
The big grocery store has the same gravy on sale for 2 for $ 5.00

Aldi's the first 4 items that went in the cart were all more than last week.
Eggs are 2.69 a dozen. Just bought what was needed. Don't very often
see heaping carts anymore. And people standing in front of something,
really pondering what to put in cart. Groceries add up to fast.

I also bought some cheap napkins. They go longer in this house than
paper towels do. And you can use them as Kleenex also.
If all else fails, coffee filters work good in the kitchen. They can
cover a dish in the microwave so things don't splatter. I have to
check the numbers for the best deals on quantity.

We use toilet paper as tissues in our house, when there's toilet paper at the foodbank in individual rolls I take one if we're running low on tissues, for actuall toilet paper I want the already-wrapped stuff fresh from the grocery store, because I'm paranoid about it being fresh since its touching my nethers. So we never buy tissues because they're overpriced.

Got grain yesterday. Knew another snow storm was due this weekend
so wanted to stay ahead. Went to a different grain mill and then also to
a grain farmer. Saves me money . Last time I bought layer grain in TSC
was Jan 12. Getting better products at less money. I also don't buy
him regular bird seed any more for the wild birds. They get triticale
and cracked corn. Lots cheaper.

Few days ago, frig in garage , the freezer on top, food was thawing.
Light was on. This machine is maybe 2 years old, if that. The frig part
seemed to be cooling. I did not hear it run. So hubby flipped the breakers
yesterday. And nothing happened. I had played with the controls and trying
to get it to turn on if I set it to coldest. Nothing happening. Pulled it forward
about 1 inch from the back wall. Just me tugging on a full frig. Sigh.
So taking a loss on the freezer contents. Well not a total loss because
the dog can eat some of the stuff. Still cold. And the chickens are eating good.
About 2 today, I reset the controls again to coldest level.
Then late afternoon, when I went out to do chores, I finally heard it running.
Checked the freezer and it was blowing cold air :) Not sure if it is back to
normal or not but maybe. So simple fix for the problem. I hope.
I will know in the morning. Maybe the cord was pinched and not making
steady contact, not sure.

So got to run errands by myself yesterday :)
Got some more of those plastic gloves. They had moved them so
I had to ask. I probably will get more next time I go in to that store.
Not a regular item they carry, so you have to get when you see stuff.

Been arguing with tracfone with hubby's phone. No clue where 600
minutes went in less than a month. But the manager lady reset it , 2
days ago, when it would not call out or accept calls or texts.
Today it did it again. Found out it had no minutes. Had time on it though.
Now wondering if when she updated it, if she wiped out those minutes.

Thrift store, picked up 5 movie cds at $ 1 each. And got 3 softcover
cookbooks for 50 cents each. Recipes in a jar, like part of a set.
Figure when I do a garage sale this summer, I will sort some books
out to let go. No sense keeping so many. Make some room on shelf. :)

Last week a neighbour knocked on the door. They are moving and heard that I liked knitting. I was presented with two big bags of beautiful yarns, mohair, some silks, merino wools and more. The savings for me comes from the fact that there is 1200 yards of mohair, enough to make a garment. Among the yarn is another pack of silk/ cotton , 1400 yards and clearly bought for a project that didn’t get done. Some is perfect for hats for the charity my sister works for. I’ll make those easily.
I’m just having fun deciding.
Food wise. I’m just eating down the freezer. I got a perfect Thermos brand thermos at a thrift store, and use it more at work for lunches, instead of heating something in the microwave I brought from home.

I'm on my bestie's unlimited Verizon phone plan, which costs me $35/month to her instead of paying Verizon over $100/month for my own plan with what I need. I switched off the local cable internet provider/robbers to Verizon internet which JUST became available in my area. cut down from $75/month for the local crap to $27/month Verizon and added Paramount Plus for $10/month to get the local CBS affiliate. OTA antennas do not work in my location, so this was finally a way to cord cut even more. so roughly $40 saved.

@ladytoysdream, hubby had that same problem with Tracphone. One month his data would be used up and shut the phone down, the next month the minutes would mysteriously vanish. He would ask for a list of where the phone minutes went and they never could tell him. He had a lifetime 3x data and minute phone and Tracphone wanted to eliminate those older phones so they messed up their usage, then claimed the phone was going bad. Sure they replaced the phone for free, but you lost the 3x plan.

Shop around to see if you can get a better deal. Once Tracphone starts messing you over, they keep doing it.

Yes we have the 3x minutes on both our cells.
This last time, the tech made me jump through hoops.
I told her phone would not call out or receive and same with texts.
She needed to verify before she would tell me what was wrong.
Wanted to send me a code on text. I said how can you send me that
if phone is not doing texts.??? Then she asked for my 4 digit password.
No problem. Then wanted to know the phone number that most calls
were made to. Then the next number, and a third number. Just to verify.
So the text finally came through. Had 10 minutes to give her the code.
She told me time had elapsed. I told her....it just came in !
Then she resent it. Finally she told me reason for nothing working.
No minutes, no text, no data. And I told her less than a month, since
I last paid for that. I track phone stuff in my notebook.
I kept asking for a manager and she would not transfer me.
I finally hung up on her. I was so mad. And still am. What a run around.
And I never can catch anyone who can speak English without a accent.
I have to tell them to slow down and not talk so fast.

I talked to my internet provider and got a great deal for the next twelve months, saving $100/mth., $1200/yr. In eleven months I’m calling again. My internet speed is three times faster too.
Lucky you.... My internet provider just raised the rate charged by $2.00 a month for their "fiber to the home" connection..... but it's bout the best connection I can get locally...
.
As to cell phones - no problem(s) - cause I don't have one... :p :giggle: :D

Canadians pay a lot for internet/cable cell services and there's isn't a lot of competition to drive prices down. I'd called my provider to drop the cable package, since I don't watch much tv now, and get a faster speed (called Ignite up here) on the 'net. Well by the time we'd finished I still had cable, but much better options, and speedy internet AND the savings (nearly 50% off) for 12 months on both. The faster internet speed is better for me since I work from home part time and needed the boost.
I do have a cell phone which I only got when I started having eldercare issues and had to be available. That's on another plan and provider so that if my main provider goes down, which does happen, the phone is a backup since it has some data too.
Come 11 months from now I'll see what they can do for me then. Perhaps tie my landline in with the cable/internet package. Yes, I have a land line too, which must stay for at least 18 months, mostly due to the same eldercare issues. Basically, I'm paying a lot of money/mth to never be out of touch. Now I'm paying $100 less.

@ladytoysdream, those reps are trained to make customers jump through hoops. I think hubby was on his 3rd rep before he got his phone straightened out. Since he needs it to work for his job we signed up on my parent's phone plan with Verizon. It's cheaper and much more reliable. I understand you don't have a similar option.

My daughter buys a prepaid card from Straight talk every month. She uses her phone for everything including getting medical information through mychart. The feds know where she is all the time.
