OK, I'm as dumb as a rock, I admit it. Thankfully, you are here to help me. My weedwhacker uses 2 cycle oil, but I only have 4 cycle that came with the lawnmower. Can I use it? Can you explain the difference to me? Thanks in advance.

Dont use 4cycle oil in modern 2cycle equipment. It wont lube properly . Short answer, its the additives. Way back when I was a kid, you just used straight 30 weight oil in both 4cycle and 2cycle engines (mixed with gasoline in the 2cycle of course). This was straight motor oil with no additives. Dont think you can buy it anymore except maybe as some no name brand in dollar type store or convenience store. You might even get away with using it for a while, but will greatly shorten life of modern 2cycle equipment designed for modern 2cycle oil.
