I have a farmall tractor and I am looking at upgrading it to a 12v system. I know I can get a 12v alternator setup but I read somewhere that 6v generator put out about 14 to 16v and to just put a 12v regulator on and leave the old gen on it. Any thoughts?

Or www.ytmag.com - another great source.

Most 6v gens will possibly put out 9v - unless you tinker with them. Tinkering with them to make 14v output stresses them, and lowers the amp output of course, so not a good way to go.

Most use a $29 or so single wire 12v alternator with a built in regulator, so you would be going the hard way the way you want to go.
