Golovin, the village where my wife is living and working in Alaska is supposed to get a ten to twelve foot storm surge tonight. The burm around the village is nine feet high. The villagers are spending the night at the village offices, which is on a small hill. The school teachers are sheltering at the school. In the past when they get a storm surge, the power plant gets flooded and power is out for three or four days.

She has decided to remain at the clinic, in case someone needs help. The clinic has a generator, with a five hundred gallon tank of fuel. In the morning the clinic may be the only building with power, or heat.

Won't be getting much sleep tonight.

She told me the weather equipment at the airport showed some 70 and 80 mph winds last night. It calmed down during the day, but was picking up again at sunset when I talked to her last. The forecast is calling for a 8 ft storm surge tonight.

It is clear and sunny today. The village had some wind damage, but no flooding. Everybody has moved back home, and the stores are open.

I can't wait to get back up there. I will be traveling on the 13th of November, with luck I'll be there for my birthday on the 15th.
