Maybe this has something to do with TV news now being so soap opera like

Years ago ABC was acquired by Disney and their news as most of their shows became more targeted toward the prime time soap opera type shows.

Yesterday in the local paper, a business section side column short article about CBS indicated that the majority voting stock owner of CBS is National Amusements Inc. and CBS is seeking permission to approve a dividend that would drastically reduce the voting majority power of the NEI stock.

Disney has always been an entertainment company and according to the article I read CBS is controlled by an amusements company. Maybe that is why the current TV news seems more like an ongoing serial program instead of the "That is the news for today" type programming that Cronkite, Reasoner and Shaeffer offered before Dan Rather predicted the election results wrong and the news programs began looking more like comedy drama shows instead of news programs.
