I don't think the name is gender oriented but just Nessie after Loch Ness. Like Jessie which can be male or female.

Many research teams have already searched the Loch with sonar and subs but not looking to capture DNA. Could be a new way of identifying species in the Loch.

I don't know if Nessie exists but I definitely believe there is an Ogopogo something in Okanagan Lake. About 38 years ago we spent about 15 minutes on our balcony watching through binoculars what appeared to be a giant snake/water creature undulating in the water with humps and bumps rising and going under. We could estimate the size by the sailboat that was anchored nearby.

Boats from all over the lake raced to the site and of course whatever it was submerged as they approached and did not resurface. Our neighbours were out on their balcony and we looked at each other and my husband said - We saw NOTHING. - and we all just nodded our heads solemnly. No one would have believed us anyways. We should have gotten a camera but were too mesmerized by what we were watching and afraid to take our eyes off of it.

The legend of Ogopogo or Naitaka comes from the First Nations and has been around for hundreds of years.
