If sophisticated Neanderthal artists painted in caves, they surely gave birth to the art critic. I am going to reserve judgement until they find some 60,000 year old reviews from the Neanderthal art critic of the day.
The entire concept of Neanderthals being unintelligent brutes came from the original discovery team that focused on their heavy brows and read them to be ape like. because of their short stature and barrel chests. Analysis of their skull has determined that they were just as intelligent as **** sapiens with better eyesight and hearing and form their bones and muscle attachments we now know that they had about 80% more body strength. And they invented the first synthetic compound - a glue made from pitch.
