How do you view your homestead ?
From your porch with your morning tea ?
Hiking the back forty or a 4wheeler ride?
Do you even have a regular and comparative general oversight ?

When the weather is amenable I sit on my front step and take a long, slow look at everything while I have my morning tea, yes. I also take several trips per day around the close-up areas to check on all the livestock. As I have goats as well as sheep, I walk the entire fence line almost every day. During growing season I tend my plants twice per day, morning and evening. I try to keep on top of my chores around the place.

Our house is set up so if you are in the dining room and look left you have a view of the backyard and if you look right you have a view of the front yard....we are in the woods and the wildlife here is always the center of entertainment....we keep things rustic and leave the landscaped yards to folks that like extra work. The wildlife loves it rustic, and so do I. The ranger is always running around keeping a close eye on what nature has to offer.

In the summer time we have a large picnic table under some maple trees off the side of the house, along with about 10 lawn chairs scattered around the table and this is where the family and company gather when the weather is nice.

I like to sneak away and walk the pastures and hayfields, but it usually never fails that someone notices I'm gone and generally finds me before I make my way back to the house. I also have a golf cart that I like to drive around the place.

Our little cabin is over a hill on the south, woods on the east and north. One window faces west and we can see the ocean and lake. Out the north window we see another lake through the trees. Best thing is we can't see our old house or neighbors unless we go over the south hill and then they are quite a ways away. Can't wait to get back there in April! The other trailer we bought has a camp ground and lake on one side and one house on the north side and two across the street. The rest of the view is trees and farmland. Not too bad if we are there in the winter but not private like the camp. Where the camp is does not get plowed out but the other place does. We like privacy and nature and if younger would be more remote but this will do.Both places have plenty of wild life hanging around.

I like to have my tea early in the morning while the dew is still on the grass sitting in the screened in porch.

Look out and say hello dad how are you this fine morning.

Good morning baby it is going to be a fine day today.

Good morning mom good looking babies you have there.

Come on kids time for the morning walk.

I wish you would wipe your feet off before getting in ther pool, look at the dirty water.

It's ok you can roll in the clover if you want.

Leigh what you doing with Jewel on your head?

Like to watch the hummers in the bee balm.

Not really any set place, but mostly whenever I "set"--lawnmower seat, Gillgetter seat, on the fishing dock, golf cart, lawn chair, the coffee deck, the back porch grill, the picnic table, the shooting stump down in the woods, the fish cleaning stool, the Cub............

Only time I see the "estate" and take a breath in, is when I come around the curve and see the house from the road......Wow, how much longer will I be able to pay the gas bill and the property taxes on this monster?

When the ground isn't covered with snow I like to walk around the cleared(ish) couple acres around the house in the morning and and sunset. Tend the garden beds, look for signs of animals, watch the birds, it's easy to get "lost" out there. Also when the weather is nicer we may walk the trail through the 18 acred wooded part of the land. We don't tend much back there other than keeping the trail clear.
But since winter- got to admit, I only walk back and forth to the chicken coop, mailbox, and compost. I should venture out more but the wood stove is so charming.

My Lab could never resist a swim in the creek and if it was flooded after a storm so much the better.

Bug patrol and clean up crew.

Thank you for not mowing down every blade of grass. Laying in the sun with fewer bugs sucking our blood and safe from coyotes.

Best money I ever spent. isn't perfect but real close to it.
