Just when I thought winter was over and glad for once we didn't lose electricity,we get told snow is coming and a big freeze this week. So tonight I am getting stuff ready in case we do lose power. Last year we lost it for a week
No matter what the rest of winter has in store for us it won't put a dent in the snow we received last year. The news is acting all excited that we might get some weather on Sunday but I bet we don't get much. But any snow is good as I can look for tracks while out checking traps
On the afternoon and evening of March 2, 1980, North Carolina experienced a major winter storm with heavy snow across the entire state and near blizzard conditions in the eastern part of the state. Widespread snowfall totals of 12 to 18 inches were observed over Eastern North Carolina, with localized amounts ranging up to 22 inches at Morehead City and 25 inches at Elizabeth City, with unofficial reports of up to 30 inches at Emerald Isle and Cherry Point (Figure 1). This was one of the great snowstorms in Eastern North Carolina history. What made this storm so remarkable was the combination of snow, high winds, and very cold temperatures.
In addition to the high snow totals, sustained winds of 20 to 40 mph were observed in eastern North Carolina with gusts of over 50 mph. The maximum gust recorded was 62 mph at Cape Hatteras. The winds caused snow drifts up to 8 feet. All travel in North Carolina came to a stop with many stranded motorists in eastern sections. Property damage was estimated at $21.8 million with nearly $10 million in Duplin County to the poultry industry. There were 13 storm related deaths statewide, including 8 in the Newport/Morehead City (MHX) area of responsibility.
Yep, it's been a wild ride.
A couple of days ago it was close to 60, had the windows open for a bit.
We are to get 4 inches later today.
At least it's on the weekend. I work at a school and we no longer have the spring vacation due to snow days.
I hope you have electricity throughout the next storm Oregon !
This is only our 2nd winter in Minnesota but like you, we prepped for 5 months of the cold stuff. Call me crazy but I LOVE this cold, snowy place. Bundle up like a snow bunny and still get plenty of stuff done outside. But oh, how I love the wood burning stove.
I know, really odd...I am north of you and I see the forecast, and I am like what!
-8C (night time lows)! For a week! In the first week of March, we get cherry blossoms. I guess winter wants one last go.
I love winter the time I can put on my warm winter gear and go out and cut fire wood for next winter. Or call up my hunting partner for a 2 week streach and go see if we can call in some coyotes.
Take the cross country skis down and take off across the fields or down beside the road and meet friends and travel thru several wood lots and fields for dinner at the inn on the lake. Stop in and see how those who fish hard water are doing while we are at it.
Is a time we also will start the snowmoblies and ride hither and youn and have supper out and maybe some dancing.
Then summer comes and it gets hot so stuck inside setting in front of a box fan in a thong. summer and the stinking heat is when cabin fever sets in.

Snow only about three inches though. Haven’t brought out my snow blower at all this year. Cold temps on the horizons now. Have scheduled multiple trips this coming week. Sure hate competing for road space with skiers and the like.

Now that is what I love-how folks tolerate different weather.
A neighbor of my in laws, Carl, used to mow grass in a speedo. 6'2" and about 150 lbs. Locals likened him to a thermometer wearing a marble sack. The issue was he didn't keep it to himself. He mowed the graveyards for the county, so it wasn't uncommon during a funeral to see this old near naked guy with long grey hair blowing in the wind, who looked nude from a distance, to come passing by with clippings stuck to his sweaty exposed areas. It didn't stop there.
After finishing up his mowing for the morning, he made it a common practice to go downtown (town is about 400 pop) to the local hardware store for lunch. They had a small bar where there he would sit on a stool, in flip flops and his crack showing, hunched over the counter having a Ruben and a lemon tea.
Never married, had a son. Locked his equipment up around Thanksgiving and few ever saw him outside of his house until late April the next year. He was a true sun worshiper.
