I wasn't sure quite where this should go. There is a section for cows. And there is another section for goats. Wasn't sure where to ask which you think is better for providing for the homestead.
I wasn't thinking much of meat. We don't eat a lot of meat and very little beef anyway. Actually, we don't even use a lot of milk, directly. But we do use quite a bit of heavy cream, butter, and cheese.
Those things are expensive in the grocery store, especially if you want the higher quality stuff. So I've pondered the idea of either a cow or a milk goat (or goats).
I've milked cows before. Too many. But I've never dealt with goats other than a couple of pygmy goats my ex had a couple of decades ago that were nothing but pets. I'm sure either has their pluses and minuses.
I'm curious if you may have been down this road on your homestead and what you decided on as being a good choice for you, and why. I don't suppose there really is a "wrong" answer. But I had hoped some of you might chime in.
