Anyone going to be viewing the eclipse? I've got a great vantage here on the OR west coast where I'm vacationing/wondering why I live in Missouri. I've got the glasses and I'll be taking some pictures. I've got a 24 megapixel camera with a super telephoto lens and a tripod, so maybe I'll get some good pics and post them here. Granted, you can also just google "solar eclipse pics" and they probably look the same, LOL.
We live just 25 miles south of one of the best viewing sites in our area, Rabun County, Clayton, Ga. There is supposed to be mega crowds and parties, we are going to watch it on TV.

Alice's link is good... you can look at the sun and takes pictures during the 2.5 minutes of totality, using any camera. If you want to film the sun during the rest of the eclipse, you need a filter for the camera lens or to hold glasses to your smartphone camera.
Around here they are saying it will be a "67% max" coverage to be seen at around 2:39PM. Me, by that time I'll be inside sipping a glass of cold Green tea. May watch the thing on the TV seems like there is day long coverage so I'm sure I'll not miss much.
At 2:35 this afternoon I'll see 97.7% of the eclipse from my back yard, although I'll most likely go to the nearest field to avoid all the trees around my place.
You can go online to a site that tells you how much of the eclipse you can see from your zip code.
Lisa, I spent some time not far from there years back. Ex father-in-law lived in Priest River... well, outside of Priest River, on Goldcup mountain, at least that's what he called it. Almost had a job waiting for me but wasn't able to get the rest of life worked out to move out there. Enjoyed Sandpoint, ID quite a bit. Have wondered what it's like out there now. Still have a friend / acquaintance north of Priest River and it's still pretty rural up there.
If I were looking towards the western side of the country, that's an area that would definitely be tugging on my heartstrings.

Goldcup kind of stands guard over Priest River...it's a beautiful mountain. The area is still very rural, a kind of back in time place. Not enough employment to fuel development so it's a mixed blessing for the locals. I know a few people up off Settlement Rd that winds up Goldcup Mt.
there were big plans to put in a golf course and high end homes in the meadow and ranch areas right below there but so far (thankfully) it's been a no go. The most beautiful pastures you've ever seen don't deserve to be turned into golf courses. IMO.
Our place is also north of the town of Priest River...halfway up to the lake.
It tugged at my heartstrings from the get go. I'm a born and bred easterner, but a westerner at heart. I dreamed of the west as a little girl. And moved as soon as I could.
As for the eclipse, I'm laying low. There are way too many people out there to be out and about. I'd normally go to a local farmers market but they don't open much before the eclipse is supposed to be starting. Nope, don't need anything that badly. Way too many people here. Crossville, TN, where I'm at, is supposed to have totality for 2 minutes and 20 some seconds. I don't have any of the special glasses but do plan on having a glance in that direction at about that time, may even snap a picture or short video on my phone. It is a rather rare occurrence so I would kinda like to see it. Big party, no. Today, I'm doing laundry. LOL! (To each their own.)
