I am sorry to hear of it, but can't say I am surprised. The list of side effects with perscriptions is long and scary. The antibiotics I am on right now literally say they could cause a rash that ends in death. DEATH! I know they have to say it all to protect themselves, but jeesh.

Have you tried a warm water and salt rinse? Or just drinking lots of warm water? Could it be the drug is dehydrating you more? Did the dr. mention anyway to help with it?
Hope it as least helping with the pain....

I hate meds....HATE them.....they never give you anything FUN.......Still remember the '6o's ...sorta...."meds" were fun back then.

I digress
If you watch the news on TV between 5-7 PM.....must be aimed at an older demographic...as the majority of the ads ....15 to 20 at a time.... are mosty for meds, car insurance, cars, lawyers...

So if you listen to the "Ask your Doctor for"....ads...60 sec spot...10 seconds of that it supposed to do, 50 seconds of warnings about how many ways your fanny is gonna fall off.
Why would I ask my Doctor for that?

I do find that if you add a couple of ice cubes, into the whisky....helps keep your mouth wetter, cuts the bite a bit....and after a couple ...don't care anyway.

I miss my beer and Jim Beam so much! But I am so afraid of what reaction I would have with all the meds I take now....there are many days that the pain is overwhelming that I am sure 3 fingers of Beam would help.

And the TV ads - I don't understand them. Do they expect you to like what you see and go running to your doc and ask for them? I have never asked my doc for anything - I am not the expert. She diagnoses me then recommends what I should take.

But I guess these ads work as there sure are enough of them.

Ok have had poor Leg Circulation for 25 years. Taking Blood Thinners because I have Chronic Blood Clots. Have had Barrett's Esophagus for 12 years, taking Medication for Acid Reflux. Have had Degenerative Bone Diseases for last 15 years, have been taking Norco for 12 years, 3 years before I drank Lots of Alcohol. Right now the Pain is worst it has ever been and for so long and getting worse.

At first I was wanting to go to a Wheelchair. My wife and Doctors talked me into doing as much as I can, it has gotten to where I could work out with some weights and swim until the last month. Now I seriously looking once again at a Wheelchair because I've got sever Pain in both Legs and what is being prescribed is not working when I have to walk.

Please can we be civil to each other?
I've had 24 years experience as a Hospice nurse and learnt a LOT about symptom control- so much I was a troubleshooter when the patients had intense, non med responsive, pain.
Big Rock, if your doctor has you on opiods, you should remain aware that people with long histories of alcohol consumption are both more physically resistant and less responsive to opiods. You might need a different opiod, or one of the following boosters..

If it is nerve pain, you may respond well to a dosepak of Prednisone or Medrol. That will knock most pain in your situation back to a do-able level. You know the risks of steroids- may worsen diabetes or osteoporosis, altho the short duration may have some protective effect. (You know, the schedule is 6 pills the first day, 5 the second, etc down to 0) It will also shrink the inflamed nerve.

You might try the Lidocaine patch Aspercreme puts out. OTC in 4%, prescription strength 5%. The OTC patch worked pretty well the month of June when I was travelling, but now I'm back on the 5%. Also Aspercreme puts out a Lidocaine roll on OTC, I use it for pain in my knees and back of thighs where patches don't stick. Maximum safe number of patches is 3. I cut my 5% patch in 2 and one goes on each SI joint. BTW Aspercreme no longer has an NSAID component, if you are staying away from Aspirin.

If your pain is dull and achy, it's probably bone pain. Believe it or not, bi phosphates (dridronel, Fosamax, Pamidronate injection) have relieved bone pain in about 50% of the patients I was seeing with intractable pain / allergies to all steroids, all NSAIDS and all opiates. The side effects are it may worsen Barrets esophagus. You have to stay upright at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Is there an acetaminophen or nsaid component to your pain regimen (such as Percocet 5 mg oxycodone/325 mg acetaminophen) The amount of caffeine in 1 cup of coffee will kick up that components painkilling effect by 50% - in other words, your 325 mg of acetaminophen in a percocet would become as effect as 485 mg.

A lot of people have not heard of the new non invasive laser procedures for shrinking painful inflamed nerves, by which pain is reduced. You need to do due diligence on a would be provider. Here, non medically trained people have set up laser clinics with a demand for a thousand dollar fee up front. My chiropractor was the one I chose- he gave 5 treatments for $450. I get an occasional booster now and then, like after my bone scan, when the hard bed and position required left me sobbing in pain.

Many people don't realize that as mattresses age they become less supportive and can worsen pain. I was discussing this with my masseur last week. I realized my "new" mattress at the lake was 11 years old and the mattress we replaced the waterbed with (Cali King) is 15 years old. Time for replacements. Yes, if you use supportive mattress pads they will need replacement in about 3-5 years.

I hope you get some pain relief soon BR

So, my question is, if it's bone pain, does it feel like a toothache in the affected part?

One side is very sharp Pain running half way up my Back and down the Back of my Leg. Gets better standing or setting. The other side feels like hundreds of Needles sticking in my Thigh. This is Nerve Pain had it before.

See what my Doctor says next week and yes the pain is getting worse.

Disclaimer: NOT a medical professional, so please take with a grain of salt.

My ex husband for years, before he had back surgery had the same siactic pain you describe, (running down the butt and back of leg). He was prescribed a small amount of painkillers, which he has been completely off of for years now, and a medication for nerve pain called Lyrica. This Lyrica stuff was a true miracle for him, only he says it made him feel drunk. But hey, if you used to drink alot of alcohol anyhow...,why not? Lol

Yeah, I have that pain down the back hip/leg thing, still do. One doctor said the back pain was because of my hip, it was referred pain, so he had me do physical therapy. Now I have very well defined hip pain, feels like a toothache in my hip. And I still have ALL the back pain. Good work, doc.
