What is every ones opinion on bug out vs. bug in for urban, suburban and rural?

For me I would say bug out for urban. With suburban I think it depends on how defensible your location is. Rural I would definitely say bug in

We call that Rush hour here in Dallas

Suburban - Bug in - I'm too old to bug out and in TEOTWAWKI situation, me and the wife will be dead in short order, she's insulin dependent and I'm a walking mess.
My only desire will be to try to help those close to me get through the initial meltdown of society.

So true, Cabin Fever. I learned that if you decide to bug out, that you need to move horses and animals much earlier. Can you imagine stuck in traffic like that with a load of horses, goaties or whatever.

My BIL and SIL were bugging out from Houston in traffic like that due to Hurricane Rita (I believe that was the name). They ran out of food, water, gasoline, and spent two days camped on the freeway in hot, humid weather. I won't discuss what they did when "Nature called." :)

We have a general rule of thumb we would follow when the SHTF.

We would stay in our primary residence until the home invasions started happening in our neighborhood. Once that happens we'd head up to the property, probably in the middle of the night. We live in an area where we'd be able to avoid any mass exodus when the time comes.

I've gradually been moving some preps up there since we bought the property. We have six 5-gallon buckets sealed with food (roughly a 4-month supply for us). Right now they're in our closet at home but I would like to bury them on the property. That way if our shed is broken into they wouldn't be able to take our food.

I figure unless some house leveling force is coming like a Forrest fire , or hurricane , or some sort of chemical spill I plan to stay put , I know my neighbors , and I have no other place where I am more in my right to be than my own home.

since where I live is at no risk of forest fires surrounded by corn , hay and beans.
over 1000 miles form a coast so no hurricane risk
flood , while I am only a 1/2 mile from the river I am at one of the higher points around the river was over flood stages most of this year with no effect on us.

unless your going to another property you own or have an invitation or are fleeing form a localized issue where are you going to go that is better than where you live and if you live in such an awful place , you might think about making a lifestyle change before the SHTF.
