Which shows do you think are most realistic or insightful ?

I'd like to nominate The Alaska Railroad.

They pump up the drama a lot but they show good actual working situations.

I also like Big Bang Theory.

Seldom watch reality TV. There are so many of them because it's the cheapest way to make a TV show.

This cements that my take on reality, vs the OP, are totally different things. I would include the majority of production companies in that assessment also.

I hold Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain in high regards.

We watch all three of Andrew Zimmern's shows, and really enjoy them. I like Anthony Bourdain and "Parts Unknown" but my husband isn't a huge fan.

I watch some of the home improvement type shows even if part of it isn't real. Hoarders because watching it always gives me the incentive to clean something out and toss stuff. American Pickers and Pawn Stars we both watch and hubby also likes Mountain Men.

The scripted stuff they have on TV isn't worth watching for the most part and I have to get my TV fix from something. LOL

It is of course a sitcom.
I included it in the OP to illustrate how a fictional show could be a accurate portrayal of life.
Another thread complains about how stay at home moms are portrayed. BBT seems to be pretty fair even to the stereotype characters.
Sheldon while cold and brilliant is portrayed with warm and clueless moments.
His churchy mother is flawed but trying to deal with it.
The pretty girl has heart breaks and career struggles and even ultimately failure.

I liked the nomination of Roseanne fore the same reasons.

I watch Deadliest Catch regularly. Little people Big World Back To The Farm occasionally. Moonshiners is/was filmed in this area but I haven't seen but a couple episodes. Sometimes I will watch shows when they are local but not that one. That old show Generation Renovation filmed here once; American Pickers comes through the area sporadically; House Hunters has filmed in the area a couple times. I local restaurant was on one of them recently but I forget which and didn't see it because didn't get the word in time.

I dont think there is any "real" reality tv shows. I know a couple that were filmed for a hunting show and she hit a turkey with a bow down in south Texas. The shot was real. Then they had her shoot for an hour and filmed it from different angles and staged it it while her turkey went hard and uneatable.

They actually wanted them to do a bow hunting series as husband and wife but they declined just for that reason. No such thing as "reality" TV IMO. Unless its live.

One of my sons is a "Sheldon'. Yes, they are out there.
"The Middle" would comes as close to reality for our family as any sitcom out there. The stories may seem extreme or cheesy, but I can assure folks that we have another son who won't watch it because some of the episodes are too "awkward" meaning it hits too close to home.
