gracielagata, I have had 2 wild caught Mustangs. One was a doll, a wonderful, wonderful kids horse and lesson horse. I learned everything I needed to know about being a wild west girl on a Mustang! He and I went for hard/fast rides through the desert with a halter and lead rope and nothing else on him. We galloped and chased and played endlessly. He was fantastic. He was a bit stubborn, but smart too. I adored him to pieces.
My second one is the gelding I have now and he is nothing like my boy was I had as a youngster. This guy came to me beaten and abused, starved, and unceremoniously marched through 3 auctions before I picked him up. He was frightened to death, had no intention of liking another human being ever, and firmly declined being haltered for the first 3 months I had him. He was only 11 months old. I have never gained his trust enough to trust him under saddle, so he hangs out with my herd and is a favorite of my lead horses. He adores my lead mare, and she calls his "son". LOL! My lead gelding tolerates him, but they get along ok mostly.
Mustangs are DIFFERENT. They are not foaled in a groomed paddock or nice stall with fresh shavings. They have to hit the ground practically running to survive. They have instincts that domestic horses have, and they don't trust anyone all the way, at least not anyone but their owner usually. But that is just my own experience, and I know a lot of people have a different story and experience with those amazing wild horses
I love my horses no matter what breed they are. Bottom line is I take them all, no breed restrictions much (sorry Arab lovers, I am not usually interested in taking them in as I can never home them! No one wants them, sadly). Overall, I love my TBreds, QH's, and Drafts, but all in between are welcome as well
