I asked my dog. He says it is not possible to love on a dog too much.

It is not affection that makes a dog think he is the boss, it is lack of rules. So have some simple rules in the house and the people (all the people) make the dog follow those rules. It could be as simple as telling the dog to sit before he gets his supper dish. Or sit for treats. That's an easy one.

A little more training, but better discipline is to make the dog wait at the door way and allow people to go through first. Then not go outside until he is given permission. That's a safety issue, too, to have him follow that rule.

If you make the dog follow your rule, even if it is very simple, then you are still the boss.

You can love on your dog as much as you want, as long as she knows who the boss is and respects you. Most people who spend a lot of time giving kisses and talking baby talk are completely forgetting the training/respect part of the spectrum. If you've got those covered, love on her all you want. If she's got issues popping up, or selective hearing, or just doesn't respect your wishes, then I'd say it's time to curb the kisses and focus on what she REALLY needs. Unbalanced dogs are not happy dogs.
