Whew! Sounds like Sadie is going to be ok. I didn't know Tea tree oil was that toxic either so I will be very careful with what I have in the house. Sadie may have saved a life from this information.
More prayers and (((hugs))

Wow~ That is really toxic. Some essential oils can be taken internally, obviously ti tree cannot. Silly dog, she should have done a google search first. Very glad she is on the mend!

Another Update: Sadie has been home for a couple of days now. She is on antibiotics and a paste to make her stool solid. Son home from Guam very happy to see her. She is walking very funny as if she is mildly drunk. I have been told it is the anti antifreeze drip wearing off. She is on soft food which she just gobbles right up. I also bought some smaller kibble(Natural Balance duck & potato) that she is able to process. She is able to pee just fine , but still waiting on her to have a bowel movement. I am very pleased with her progress as is all of our family. She is a part of all of us.

Just read your posts and very glad that your Westie came to no harm.
As for the tea tree oil that is news to me also. Makes me wonder if that could harm any animal dogs and cats both. We have had it around in the past with our cats being near it.
Thanks for the tip.

Well thank god...so happy that she is doing so much better!! It is so sad to lose a pet especially over something that could have been prevented. Good luck and hoping she makes a full recovery!

Final Post on Sadie the Westie. She has made a full recovery? That is to say she is alive. She is just lost it seems. when we got out she is responsive to you if you catch her looking at you. She can not jump up in your lap. She is having trouble concentrating on what she is doing. She has soiled in the house a couple of times after she went out and used the out door facilites. Things are different. She is loved and alive. She just looks at us like who are yall. Just going to take some time I guess

Oh, I'm so glad she survived, now to hope for a full recovery. I had no idea that tea tree oil is so nasty if they ingest it!

Yes, it will take time, but hopefully she will have a full recovery eventually.

When I accidentally locked my cat in the garden shed for almost 24 hours one summer she suffered heat stroke. It's been several years since, but she will never be the same cat. However, she has greatly improved over those years and is almost like she was before.

I too had no idea about tea tree oil. I hope it's a total recovery. Are the gums normal color yet?

I guess I never addressed the gum color. Her gums were pale when she ingested the tea tree. After the IV Drip they came back to full color in about 4 hours. She has lost a lot of memory. Vet called and I am taking her back in for a look see in a few days. She drinks and enormous amount of water and will eat like she has never seen food. None of that is what used to be.She used to love getting on the back of the couch to lie down. I placed her up there and she got down. No recall there. It will take us time to relearn her new behavior as well as for her to relearn all the English she has forgotten.

Wow...Dave that is just so sad. But thank goodness she is alive. Does she seem happy at times? Or is she always confused...

She is so lucky to have your loving care. I didn't know tea tree oil had that high of a toxicity. Good to learn for the future. I agree that her trial may save lives as you share that knowledge.
Hope to read she is acting like her old self soon.

<Hugs>

Ti tree oil in shampoo is nothing to be concerned about. Ti tree oil straight, undiluted, taken internally is an entirely different matter. It is weird what they'll eat.

Glad she's better -people take a good while to recover completely no reason why a dog wouldn't need time also. After being so sick she probably is a bit confused about things -hopefully it will all come back-give her an extra hug for us
