SIGH...here we go again!

Caoimhe is sick again. When we got up this morning she'd had several bouts of explosive diarrhea. It's continued all day...very watery and gassy. I'm giving her Parvaid, but we will be taking her to the vet in the morning. We're hoping it's just the same 24 hour bug Maggie had, but don't want to take any chances.

Other than the diarrhea she feels good...eating (giving her small bland meals), drinking plenty of water and playing.

Please keep your fingers crossed that she will be okay! Thanks.

Finger crossed!!!!

Oh shoot! I hope she gets better fast!

Ravenlost 03/12/11 04:39 AM

Thanks Minelson. Hubby and I are taking turns staying up with her tonight. It's 3:39 a.m. right now. We'd rather stay up to take her out than clean up another mess like we had yesterday morning!

SageLady 03/12/11 04:42 AM

Oh yeah, that would be GROSS to clean up. Hope Miss Caoimhe is feeling better in no time for her sake and yours! Prayers sent.

Ravenlost 03/12/11 02:36 PM

She is better today. No more exploding watery diarrhea...just regular diarrhea now. We decided since she seems a bit better to not take her to the vet today. We're just going to continue to give her Parvaid and Baytril.

Ruby 03/12/11 05:27 PM

That poor baby.

Ravenlost 03/12/11 06:02 PM

I know Ruby. She's really been through it. You couldn't tell to look at her though...bright intelligent eyes, very bouncy and playful. She acts like she feels fine, but I know her tummy must be hurting and her hiney has got to be sore after yesterday and the night before.

Sure she didn't just get into something?? i swear, you probably have ore gray hair than you deserve.

What's the Baytril for? Was she already on it? Baytril isn't a typical diarrhea med.

Hope she feels better soon!

Ravenlost 03/12/11 07:30 PM

Our vet gave Maggie Baytril when she was sick with an intestinal bug a few weeks ago. Caoimhe has the exact same symptoms so I figure she has the same bacterial bug as Maggie. It seems to be helping. She's had no diarrhea this afternoon and has been a total pest while I was in the front yard working. She's got enough energy and bounce for a dozen dogs!

GoldenMom 03/12/11 09:04 PM

Huh, I've not used Baytril for that (probably partly because it's sooo expensive!). I usually send home metronidazole. Glad she's feeling better!

Ravenlost 03/12/11 10:57 PM

Maggie was also on metoclopeamide, but Caoimhe hasn't had any vomiting so I didn't give her any of it.

She still hasn't had any diarrhea since this morning so I think (fingers crossed...knock on wood) she's recovering.

Minelson 03/12/11 11:01 PM

Baytril is the bomb! :) ! BUT...my first choice for tummy problems would be the Metro also. Canned pumpkin, Probios, Slippery Elm Bark are other remedies I have used. I'm so glad she is getting better for you Ravenlost...WHEW!

Hope she's feeling even better by morning - keep us posted!

LOL...I've never dyed my hair because I figure every one of these white hairs was earned the hard way and they're my badge of honor for having survived!

LOL! Right there with you on this one! Sure glad to hear a good report! Funny how long it took to hit Caoimhe after Maggie had it and that no one else got hit but VERY glad for your sake that the rest didn't!

Ravenlost 03/13/11 03:04 PM

Longshadowfarms, hubby and I talked about that. When Maggie got it the vet said he was noticing a lot of dogs with it every time it snowed. Caoimhe came down with it after we had rain. Makes me wonder if there's something in the air...maybe some bacterial thing around here. I don't know and it is odd that (fortunately) none of the other dogs got it. I suspect Caoimhe got it because she still has a weak immune system. However, she continues to improve. No accidents during the night (and we didn't stay up all night to watch her) and she's outside playing with Tadhg right now...all full of bounce and energy.

Snow might also cause runoff like the rain does. Dogs drink out of the creek, puddles, etc. Hard to say but I'm glad it hasn't hit more of your dogs!

Caoimhe is back to normal as of last night! WHEW...

ann in tn 03/14/11 04:14 PM

That is wonderful.

Ravenlost 03/14/11 07:53 PM

Yes it is! We were absolutely overjoyed to watch her energetically dig a large hole in our front yard today!

Honest! We were!

Minelson 03/14/11 07:54 PM

Good!!! Greeat!! So happy she is back to normal :)
