Saying goodbye to Molly

Molly born Feb 2, 1998 passed away this morning June 6, 2010 after sustaining a spinal injury yesterday afternoon while chasing a chipmunk.

Molly will always be remembered for her fierce protection of chickens, small dogs, big humans. She was blessed with a wonderful life and spent most of her days on this mountain top with no fences, no leashes or collars. Running and springing to see the squirrels above the tall grass it was easy to see the reason for the breed being called springer spaniel.

Molly who fought tooth and nail to avoid having me trim her feet, yet who laid next to me all day when I could not get up.

Molly who hiked every inch of this mountain with me, rode snowmobiles and ATVs like a pro. Molly who loved to snow bathe and play in even the last little bit of snow left in late spring.

Molly, the first dog who ever choose me to be her mom. The love and light of my life. I will miss her so. She had gone missing yesterday and we did not find her until this morning. Rushed her to the emergency vet who kindly helped her pass from this life into the next.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am so very sorry for your loss. Molly is so lucky you found her in time and were able to be with her as she crossed, surrounded by the one she loved most.

Now you all have me crying again! Thank you for the kind words, it was important to me to write the little description as a reminder to myself that she had a fine life. Now I only have to deal with my sadness and the fact that my password for this forum is "mollydog" lol. Sisterpine

Molly sounds like she had a most marvellous life with you...she is in the company of many good dogs who have recently gone before her. Run free Molly.....

There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who chose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings or walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive;our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given."
