I have sold one litter to a local pet store and plan to sell many more. I heard somewhere that if you make a certain amount of money you need a license. I dont think it is a big deal because it is only a locally owned pet store but I thought it would be good to find out. I only have one breeding pair and am not planning to expand in the near future. I live in Illinois. Thanks for any input!

technically by law you cannot sell any to pet stores without usda permit /inspection process ....
that said, if its only on occasion , its not a problem i think the big dollar breaker on that one is like 1000.00 or more, honestly not sure ....
but still with justo ne pair of breeders, youre not gonna come close to a danger point with them

    good luck

It all depends on how much you are receiving for your rabbits. If you sell $500.00 or more annually, you will need to obtain a permit from APHIS and conform to the Animal Welfare Act and be periodically inspected. For more information on the Animal Welfare Act, go to:

No, it does not apply to growers selling to processors as they are exempt. Only those growers and distributors catering to pet stores and also laboratory markets require the AWA permit. There are several different categories.
