Tuesday hubby is going to take the trailer and get a load of free pallets! They were posted on Craigslist and the guy told me they have 4x8 to 5x12 pallets, plus he'll load them!

Hubby is already planning to make a three sided shelter for the horses and I'm thinking we could make some great dog houses. He said if he could get enough he could build himself a storage shed.

Any more ideas on how we could use pallets of these sizes?

I built a potting bench out of pallets, love it! Looking for more so I can (try to) build a kitchen island. And there's a spice rack on the decorating forum I'm going to copy.

All these are pretty small projects though, those are some big pallets you're getting! I have seen a few garden sheds built out of them.

Lots of people build chicken coops out of them. We have done a dog house & My chickens roost on a pallet leaning up against the barn wall. Also we stack our feed & square bales of hay on pallets.

I get a bunch of free pallets from work all the time. the broken up ones we burn in our fire pit, or in our fireplace sometimes.
in our little 3 sided barn, we used them to frame in and build separate pens for chickens, goats, and bunnies.
we stack our hay, firewood, and bags of feed on them also.
we have a really old building on our property that we are going to take the "barn wood" off and use for craft projects.

I get pallets from work whenever I find red oak pallets ours are usually 4x4 or so. Some have 1in thick by 6in wide boards the I use my planer to smooth them out make shelves, bird houses and other projects. I am planning on making a worm home out of some to have a large vermiposting station.

Definitely need a compost bin. My current rabbit pen is built on a pallet, but I could use one of the new pallets to build him a bigger pen.

Thanks for the links and ideas!

Here's a picture of the pallets:

I'm using them currently to build a hunting blind in the woods. Now that the season is underway, I'm going to have to wait till it's over to complete it. I'll post pics next spring when it's done. 8x10.

I'd go to www.pinterest.com and type in wood pallet ideas and you'll find some interesting ideas. Good luck!

Them are nice enough to disassemble. I would break them down and use them as regular lumber.

We built three huge compost bins out of pallets. Also, we built potting benches and tables: stand two pallets up in between two trees near to each other. We just tied the pallets to the trees. Then, we cut a top out of old plywood, nailed it to make a top. Then we took boards and laid them in the slats and made shelves underneath. They last a long time and are easy to take apart if you need to move it.
