New Ground this fella said www.hamtestonline.com was extremely helpful to him and his wife in getting their licenses. He has gone through all the testing from Technician up to Extra all in just over a year. So, it's either a great site to learn from or he is just a very quick study.

Trisha, you are reading my feeble mind! My wife and I both used hamtestonline when we got started!

I know many are reluctant to pay for a site, however, it was very helpful for us. It goes over the material, then tests you and it keeps track of the type of material you are the weakest and concentrates on that material in subsequent test questions.

That being said, there are other good sites that are free and I've been to most of them when I was studying for the tests.

Good luck!!

You can also buy the book which includes the pool of test questions. Memorize the answers and once you get your license, you'll then start to learn what you really need.
And you'll still have the book for reference later.

X100 agreements with you Ernie. I don't want to become a radio junkie -just a user.

So much to do, so few resources.
It's one of those 'it would be interesting but we're not part of a group so the benefit is marginal' sorts of things for us. We have handhelds that can, if charged, talk to each other over more distance than we'd like to be separated by in an emergency situation. If I understand the manual, which I probably don't, they will operate on some channels that require a license to use, as well as the normal channels which do not.
