Milkweed shoots that I weed out of the garden are excellent. Parboil and then saute them, or throw them in a pot roast.

Google edible weeds, or search wildcrafting or edible wild plants on Amazon books. You'll find TONS of information.

Hadn't heard that, but crushed eggshells are good for tomato plants when planted with them. Some people even start the seeds in the shells and have a biodegradable little pot!

As for broccoli, the whole plant is edible although the stringy portions can be cut off.

Has any one found a use for used canning jar lids?
I use some of them to put up dry goods in spare jars, but I must have 2-5 gallon buckets of them now.

I have no where near that amt...but I do "can" water im my emptied jars for storage with used lids. Keeps the jars clean, is a source of water in an emergency, and if the used seal does not hold, no biggie. you can use the water jars to make a full canner when you are a few jars short (the strawberry jelly recipe I use makes only 4 pints at a time, so I can fit three jars of water in)

used to waste it but now I...
save fruit peels...
peach and apple become juice after boiled with water...orange and lemon get dried and are scrumptious in baked goods
celery tops become celery flakes after a spell in the dehydrator
old t shirts become tissues for the nose, potholders or dish scrubbers when made into yarn and crocheted
aluminum foil pans used for storebought stuff are washed and used for camping/feed pans/crow scare etc
