All I know is I have about 2 acres of unused field and if I don't put it to use soon I'm going to feel like crap about it. It's in red fescue now so I suppose I could use that for low quality feed?

Yes it can be done. One puts the flax in water and rots the outer coating of the stem. Then you Break the stem with a paddle/club, and thin fibers are derived from that. Then spin, usually using a bit of water to hold the fibers and make them more pliable while spinning. Quite a process and I have never went thru it -only have spun some. There are other natural fibers that can be spun. In my Avatar, a young girl is spinning Nettles to knit sweaters for the 11 brothers. Hence my screen name- I had 7 in my family and the 7th is my little brother that I could not save. The young girl in the 11 Swans story, couldn't finish the 11th sweater in time to save her brother from changing back to a human from a swan and he now has one arm still a swans wing.Ok I'm corny, but it's a cool story.
