Sort of on topic.
A few years ago my step mom was here on the mainland for a visit. I made potatoes as a side dish, she commented on their taste, then asked if I'd made them myself...Huh?....she saw me make dinner. She asked if I used real potatoes...Huh?... what other kind is there?! Then it dawned on me that she uses pre-made/boxed potatoes. I also remembered that when us kids were growing up WE did all the cooking...and cleaning.
She's coming to visit later this month, mealtime will be interesting.

To the OP: yes, it's already there.

Hmm. Seems I have some kindred spirits here. I am the primary purchaser of non-meat items for our home (well, every now & then, I'll buy a chicken on sale). Like Ernie said: it's easy to make "from scratch" food. Don't have a crock-pot? There always seems to be a few at the thrift store. Oatmeal/Wheat Berries can be made overnight for breakfast, stews/fajita fixings/casseroles can be put together in 20 minutes or less and left to cook all day. And those meals fill us up for more than 30 minutes!

Weston Price had some amazing discoveries regarding nutrition and our physical state. If you haven't read any of his material, it's a interesting read and sure made me wake up!

There is not a "food" problem in America. There is a "healthy food" problem in America. Plain and simple. Big Agribusiness food is NOT healthy for us. Their goal is not to feed America or any other country. Their goal is to make money. If they can add cheap fillers to foods to cut costs, they will do it.

Having said that, I admit to buying alot of prepackaged foods. I know I shouldn't and that it's not healthy for us but I do it. It's very hard to break habits that have been ingrained in us since childhood I AM however, TRYING to get away from doing it. I make "meals" and can them whenever possible. Since DH and I are away from home the majority of our time, it makes it a little easier to eat a little healthier. Eating out all the time has added inches to our waistlines and pounds to our bodies and has done nothing but contribute to the ruination of our health. I'm slowly trying to get things on a better track.

I was in the process of posting the cupcake recipe but the neighbor caught his pasture on farm and almost burned down his woods and my house. I cut all the power off when the fire reached the pole, so no cupcake recipe for you right now.

I'll have to wait until later when my wife explains it to me again.

The Lord gave us a real blessing about 5 years ago. One of our sons developed an enormously problematic food allergy to CORN. We were forced to start reading food labels.
Ernie, I had the same kind of "blessing" last year with 2 of my daughters. Doctors ran some expensive test, but did not reach a diagnoses, wanted to run more tests. So after I did a lot of research and detective work on what they were eating, turns out one had a wheat allergy and the other can't have MSG.

Let me tell you msg is in all processed foods, a lot of time as a 'hidden' ingredient. This has made a drastic difference in the way we eat, all for the better. I am now highly suspicious of ingreidents on food labels, don't trust the food industry one bit. Filllers are one thing, but msg is harmful and they hide it on the label! Anyway this is a real sticking point for me.

Ah, food.

We are in a travel trailer now, as of the 1st of the month. Very limited space for foodstuffs.

Many of those long names are vitamins.

I am practicing container gardening right now, hope to see some lettuce making it's way up in the next few days.
