Yes, I use mine as a holding place till the meat gets canned. But I just put a huge pig in mine and am canning as fast as possible and hoping to get it done before anything hits here.

yeah...power goes out a lot here, sometimes for a week at a time...winter or summer I try not to keep much in there.

For those who would say "I'm all prepped . .I've got two months worth...."
Those folks would do well to dig into and read a bunch about how the Brits did for how many . . Years.
My mom did a huge amount of canning from the WWII *Victory Garden"

Do I want a bowl of stewed tomatoes . . . .NO !!!!

You mean you still don't have that pig canned yet?

I've got about 10 lbs of ground round I'll be canning tomorrow. After that, I need to can a couple of pork roasts and I'll be past the hard part. I hadn't planned on getting in any hurry, but the gulf is getting active early this year, so I figure I'd better get it done. The rest is just flour, beans and rice being 'debugged' for storage.

I've done 28 qts of meat and 4 qts of rendered lard. Too much other work to do around here! Had to stop canning and clean the house and work in the garden. There is no way I could can the entire freezer after an emergency started! I plan to start in again and keep plugging away at it though.

To all of you that can a lot... where do you store it? My pantry is full and I just put up 30 pints/half pints of blueberries... I am running out of room. I don't have a basement and I believe my garage would be just too hot. I need to find a creative place to store jars so that would be convenient, but still out of sight.

Stacked up in boxes in an unused back room.

That could be a problem if you don't have a spare room. But you could put them in boxes under the beds.

You can put a lot of jars on appx 4 inch wide shelves run down one wall of a long hallway. Make doors of plywood covered with wallpaper or painted.

I've also run shelves between studs where a wall had to be opened. It was just wide enough for pints.

We have central air here, and two vents in the garage. I'm sure our electric bill is higher because of this, but with all the canning jars, LTS stuff, and storage containers with photos and other keepsakes, it's worth the cost. Is there some way you can run a vent out there?
