The Full Pot?

Ok my wife is always teasing me if I'm by myself for a few days I'll fix up something like Stew or such, eat on it for several days.

Here is the problem. When the Kids left how I continued to stock up with just as much,I'm still guilty of this today.

Then when cooking my wife would still cook up the same. Both of us I think tried to eat the extra in one setting throwed the rest to the Dogs.

Ok since I'v started losing weight I've been eating saving the rest for next day.But sometimes there is too much, some can freeze but some things just don't keep over well. Then there is the Cakes and Pies trying to fix just enough for one setting seems even trying to fix small portions is hard.So go ahead and fix normal Cake or Pie it gets ate in couple days too much to be of any good.

Ok I enjoy being Blessed with a Full Pot but if I'm not real careful its going to kill me.

I need ideas that I can get my wife to understand too.

Gift her with the book: In the Kitchen With Rosie by Rosie Daley.

It's Oprah's favorite recipies when she was at her thinnest. Recipies serve from 2 to 4 and are low fat, low sugar and low salt. And taste good!

When she reads it, the chatty little notes Opra writes between recipies, the reasons it was written, I'm sure she'll get the idea.

Change can be frustrating. Hang in there.

If losing weight is the issue I'd think that having cake and pie is not such a good choice....

If you really want to do a small pie..so you don't nibble on the pie every night until it's gone...(pasty has a LOT of calories, btw)....

try making folded over pies...take a square of piecrust, maybe 5"x5", put a few tbls of piefilling on the center. brush the edges with egg, then fold the crust over so that it's like a turnover. press the edges together. Bake in the oven at 400F until the crust is brown

Cakes...make muffins/cupcakes. Cupcakes freeze REALLY well. Then just take ONE out to thaw.

I am trying to battle this same problem. I have put the bigger pots away wher ethey are hard to reach. I bought some small loaf pans. One old cake recipe will make 4 of these. I give one or two away, leave one out to eat and freeze the remaining one. I'll let you know how it works in a few months, so far so good.

A couple of thoughts: An unfrosted cake cuts calories, freezes better and in my house lasts a little longer. Cookies? Only bake half the dough and freeze the rest. Pies? Can't help much there since I LOVE pie, I would suggest using an Oatmeal based pie crust though.
Smaller pans, bowls and dinner plates are a good idea.
