Cobalt 60 stolen in Mexico

http://rt.com/news/truck-radioactive-stolen-mexico-697/

Not sure if they intentionally grabbed the truck because of the Cobalt 60 or if they just wanted the truck.
Thought it was of interest though.
It would be nothing to sneak a backpack bomb over/under the border etc.. into the US.

I read about this this morning.. and it's interesting, because just a couple days ago driving down the Interstate I saw a truck hauling one of those bullet/bomb/crash proof containers and it was marked with radioactive placards. I told my wife it sure is interesting we're being kept safe from terrorists, yet they move the stuff all over the country without escorts, and mark it clearly for someone to steal...

Something tells me, this time maybe someone stole a truck, and had no clue what was in it..

I'm hoping it was just thieves who took an opportunity, and when they find out what they have, will just ditch it. If they have a radio, they should already know.

But this is yet another wakeup call about our unsecured southern border. Dirty bombs could be moved in backpacks by mules just like bales of pot.........

The amount of radioactive stuff, weapons and waste that zip along our roads daily is truly jaw-dropping!
In my area, it is particularily common.
We are along 2 routes that transport all sorts of goodies often.
The stuff comes from Norfolk, from Savannah etc.. and heads up and over the mountains.
But we haven't had a spill since 2004. Oh yay.
It truly would not take much to wreck one, hijack one etc..
off of any road or train tracks in this country.

And not to mention the failing infrastructure and bridges... egads.
Nothing you can really do to prep for that though..

Some of those trucks might be decoys. Sent ahead to test the waters or distract from the real shipment. This also could be a test for internal leaks or the drivers themselves.

What exactly IS cobalt 60? I mean, is this like raw plutonium or is it more like the goo they put in glow-in-the-dark watches?

Do you mean the trucks on the roads?
They are real.. between 10 and 12 a week travel through one particular intersection, but that number is a few years old.
It has been a big issue in the area for years now and it causes a lot of concern. There are lots of meetings about it every year, but nothing changes.
Lots of talk about how none of the personnel in the area are trained or equipped to handle a spill, much less a theft.

Foxnews just said the container has been found -- empty.
Not sure what to think now: was it empty all the time? what do you put stuff like that in? Do we need to worry about this -- or is it just more distraction (on top of more distraction) to overwhelm people?

stay tuned...

All they have to do now is walk around checking the dead in the streets with a Geiger counter those guys are toast unless it was very very clandestine and they actually knew what they were doing

So...if they found it and it was no longer in the container....does that mean they will be able to find the "guys" the stole it by the glow in the bathroom??? Can you imagine true florescent pee????

If the reports are correct on the TV they would have gotten a lethal does by taking it out of the shipping container and standing next to it for longer than 5 minutes . I do not think there is much of a man hunt in progress they figure they will turn up in a week to 10 days dead or dying and seeking help. .

The assumption is that they stole the truck with out knowing what was in it.
