Ogden, Utah Police Raid

Have you been following the raid in Ogden?

1 cop dead and 4 wounded when a SWAT team burst into the home of a veteran who was allegedly growing marijuana for home use. The veteran was wounded and managed to break out of the encirclement before finally collapsing from his wounds. He is under arrest and recovering in the hospital now.

From what I've read so far, the DEA apparently DIDN'T find any marijuana in the house but he had potting soil and gardening implements so they are claiming this is evidence that he was maintaining a grow operation SOMEWHERE.

They've also started using the Kafka-esque argument that it was good that they took down this disturbed individual who was willing to shoot at police before he harmed any of his neighbors. So even though he had never gotten into so much as an argument with his neighbors or had ever even been arrested for drunk and disorderly, they're claiming that his willingness to shoot back at the police who invaded his home justifies their raid on his home.

If what I've found on this so far is accurate, Americans had better wake up.

The use of no-knock and unannounced raids need to be stopped! That's probably the reason he shot at them! Don't put me on that jury, I'd be voting for aquittal if that's the type of raid that was done.

If that is their evidence many of us are just as guilty.
People should realize the same evidence could be used against them at any time.
We need to wake up.

Until the police KNOW that when they conduct a raid on a home that they will receive fire from both their front AND their rear then these sorts of things will continue.

Shoot, if potting soil and garden implements is all they need they may as well charge me with producing more than the whole of Mexico.

Same thing happened just south of here. No Knock warrant, homeowner was a vet so when people started breaking in he grabbed his rifle.... he was never given the oppurtunity to put it down, never had the change to point it at the black clad, head covered with Blaklava officers who broke in and was shot and killed in front of his wife and child. Polic said they were told the people that lived in the house trafficed in drugs.... um nope.... those were the prior residents......... senseless, truly sensess and no this wasn't an MCSO jurisdiction (Maricopa county, ie. sherrif Joe).

Scary that one is expected to protect themselves then when the cops act like the thugs they defend their actions by saying the homeowner was the bad guy.

I don't do drugs except aspirin maybe three times a year, but I am ready to call for legalizing all drugs.

Report on MSNBC claims that officers knocked and then entered after getting no response.

If a person knocks on my door and I don't answer they should not decide to come in anyway.
I would do pretty much as the man did. Hopefully with better results.

The scam that will be pushed over this indecent will be PR fodder for increase in all that fancy weapons and technology that they want in the hands of the police to support their military tactics. If that does not work we now can use the actual military to preform raids because as we all know everything you do supports terrorism. Sad that someone died, the public will blame the guy they went after, they should blame the Judge for signing the warrant for lack of sufficient probable cause for a no knock search warrant and the police for failing to uphold the standards of the Constitution when preforming their duties. Maybe one day police work will really be as deadly as they wish you to believe.

Well, I was following the shooting. Knowing allot of people in Ogden, I had heard of it a couple hours after it happened. My brother and I discussed it a couple days ago, we figured no drugs had been found as the police would have paraded pictures on the news, even if it was just a dime bag.

I'd like to hear what the victem has to say, having been shot for protecting himself.

I hope the man gets to tell his story. If I knew there were people sneaking around my place and then someone knocked I wouldn't answer the door either.

I'm impressed he broke containment and got as far as he did. Other than that the whole story really is rather depressing.

Oddly, as I'm reading this the local police chopper is doing some sort of low altitude maneuvers around my hill. If you see a story on the news about a guy in SW Washington getting into a shoot out... That's almost funny huh?

SO...if someone breaks into my house I have to see ID BEFORE I can use Castle Doctrine?? I think NOT! If anyone breaks into my house un-announced, armed, and "dressed for war" - they better expect one!

Here's the big problem ...

Everyone sees the issue with the no-knock raids and proudly proclaims that they'll shoot the police if the police try that nonsense on THEIR house.

Only thing is ... when they come for YOU it'll be in the middle of the night after you've had a good supper and are snoring soundly. They'll be in your hallway with an MP5 pointed at your head before you've even got your trousers on.

Until people start proclaiming that they'll defend their neighbor instead of just their own house against the jackboots, we're all just sitting around waiting for our own private Waco.

I agree with the sentiment but it does present certain problems. Mostly that you never know why someone is being raided until well after the raid. Could be a legit raid.

I'd suggest we need to make the punishment for a bad raid, a bad shoot, or things of this nature so bad it won't happen.
