tiny apartment that makes tiny houses look like mcmansions
Been a lot of talk on here about tiny houses. Thought this apartment in Paris has some good space saving idea.

See Inside A Tiny 86-Square-Foot Paris Apartment With A Bed In The Cupboard
 Asta Thrastardottir, Business Insider
"Maid rooms" in Paris are usually located on the top level of Haussmann-period buildings and are characterized by their tiny size and lack of aesthetic or function, according to Kitoko Studio.
They are so small that no one wants to live in them and most have been abandoned or have become mere storage spaces.
But due to extremely pricey rents in France's capital, one design studio decided to rethink the entire concept of these forgotten rooms.
Kitoko Studio designed a room based on the “concept of a Swiss army knife,” and somehow managed to squeeze all of the amenities of a full apartment into this tiny 86-square-foot space.

I love how inovative people can be. This is really neat.
That being said, one of the first thoughts that popped into my head was Leelu saying "AutoWash" LOL

It's neat, but I can't imagine living there. What about a comfortable chair, or a place for a computer or a TV? It's just too sterile for me.

No porch, no swing, and no rocking chair. And could not see my 'stuff.'
But some good ideas to put in a 'normal' home.

It's pretty cool how they were able to incorporate so much stuff into such a tiny space, but not for me, lol!
Even my "tiny" house has to have more room than that, as well as some personalization. I cannot live in an institutional-feel setting, it would just kill my soul in no time. And I would have some serious claustrophobia in that bed! For some, "tiny" automatically equates to cramped, ugly and uncomfortable, but it doesn't have to be.
I don't know how money saving it would be either since you'd have to eat the majority of your meals out, and what little you did bring in would have to be bought at market prices rather than on sale, as there's no where to store much more than a jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread.
Of course, the good side is you'd never need a gym membership...climbing those seven flights of stairs constantly would sure keep you fit
Autowash...ROFL! I can definitely see that!
While some of this is a little too frou frou for me, this is more what I have in mind for my tiny house: http://shabbychictinyretreat.blogspo...20Tiny%20House
It's comfortable, homey and definitely has personality. It also has a full workable kitchen, two sleeping lofts (I'd use one for crafts or storage), a dining area, a daybed nook next to a faux fireplace for reading or snuggling in on a cold day, a full bath with tub and shower, and even a nice cozy porch. The only thing she doesn't have that I want to incorporate is a washer/dryer nook. All this is in 192 square feet.
She also has a storage shed and a chicken coop/run that she's made into a a kind of little compound. Now this is my idea of "tiny" living!

I clicked on the link and saw a few more photos. Definitely quite thought out and very unique, with potentiality. If the overall square-footage was bigger, it might even be liveable.
I think a young person might be able to live in it, not an older person, or a person with disabilities. The bed is in the upper cabinets. I could see someone easily having a nasty fall.
It is innovative!

My little house suddenly feels so much bigger. I wouldn't mind translating a few of those hidden storage ideas into my house.
I wouldn't be happy living anywhere quite that small (unless the alternative was being homeless) but that would make a really neat college dorm room.

I'd rather live in a tepee in the woods.

Heres a similar tiny apartment in Germany and it has increased security features too.
and here is a tiny apartment from Poland in the 1800s

Think I will stick with my small but normal seven room house with attached sunroom/greenhouse that doubles as passive heat collector and my tag behind camper for my mobile housing preference as both have front and back doors.

I think it is great as a bedroom away from home. Something for a person who has to be in a place a couple days a week for classes or business. Better than a motel room or an apartment with more than you need.

I could nap or sleep there. I would not need a YMCA membership. Enough exercise climbing over the piano to go to the kitchen all of the time.

The apartment (or house? ) in the link is charming. So much personality in such a small space. The only change I would make is seasonal: at this time of year I would add some warmer accents. But it's lovely as is.

Glad you like it Stef. We can agree to disagree. It would be boring if everyone liked or disliked the same things!

block paint the different sections all sorts of different colors. Keep them light so it won't close in, but enough to make it less sterile looking.

Definitely more suited, IMO, for a younger person w/ few possessions/collections.....and in good physical condition!
But it beats the heck out of a sidewalk or park bench!
