heres that blend for you....this guy lives in cezh republic....hes been training this...what looks to me is a halflinger for the last bit to ride and drive and work/pull.
check out what he goes to get in town....this guy is a primitive skills expert.he has a large family and his buggy is school bus style in my mind.
look at the set up he has on the shafts...the shafts have to be able to hold the buggy off his legs and rump....in my horse working experiences we always used harness with a britchin on it...the belt that goes around rump to hold back loads...but theres all kinds of ways of hooking up and doing...this way he has less materials need that in a shtf deal might be hard to come by.
many lives across the globe are vastly different than what we know and have now.

Pretty cool. If the weeds were growing out of the road, it would be like the book A World Made by Hand. I personally believe this is where society is heading. Wish I could be around for it, but know what I know now. I'm sure TPTB will figure out a way to keep us in hock and on the treadmill even then.
What about the collar? Can't use a collar or hames on donkeys because their shoulders are too narrow, so I think I'd need the britching. Would be so much easier to just slip the collar on. Maybe a dorsal yoke?
aar, I enjoyed seeing the horse. No gasoline worries, but I hope the price of propane doesn't break them.

maura i found this video for you...it looks like this guy has a type set up that i would call a hybrid between a collar and hames.
i did see somewhere in my looking in the way past a donkey being used that had a type of wood arch across its shoulders...but i have no clue where i seen it at.
one thing i seen alot of people work horses in collar with no padding under it....i was taught never to work a horse without a pad under collar because once ya get the shoulders sore you have troubles....even after they no longer are sore it is in there mind...especially working hard and pulling heavy loads...my only experience in horse working is in logging which is the hardest pulling there is. i have only worked suffolk punches or crosses of the suffolk breed.

In the first video I felt sorry for the donkey. When the driver shakes the reins it jiggles the bit and hurts the donkey's mouth. I don't use a bit, I use a cross under bridle. I think it's better to simply use voice commands. You see in the second video the man uses a bitless bridle for training and a simple 'whip' to tap with. I like his training harness.
Love the third video, donkey knows where he's supposed to go and even to move to the side of the road when a vehicle comes by. Donkeys are so smart. The harness he wears looks a lot more comfortable than the wooden yoke. Thanks for posting these.

Maura; talked to a couple of guys I know that has mules and they get collars made at 2 different harness shops in Topeka,In.. They measure the neck at the largest point and give the measurements to the harness shop to have them made. If close enough they use pony or horse hames that can be adjusted up or down.
