Simple easy prep-i should know better

Been having a cold snap here. The other day we got 6" of snow and windchill -10 i had left for work at 7am and was heading home around 10pm (i drive a truck so was on the road in the snow almost the entire time) and got a flat tire (simething poped a hole in it). So ive changed dozens of flats out but not on this speficic vehicle. Needed a special "key" and uses a hole in the bumper and jack extension to lower spare. So i was crawled under the truck with kug whench trying to figure out how to lower my spare. Turned a 5minute job into 20 with a few warm up brakes in cab. On the plus side i was preped with extra flashlights and several pairs of gloves. My winter car gear includes i a 0* sleeping bag and insulated coverals in my truck jic but got the tire on and home.

Anyway when you get a new car make sure you (and anyone that drives it) knows how the spare works. Much easier to figure out on a 70* summer day then in the dark cold and snow after being on the road 15hours lol.

Happened to me one rainy night, and was happy when a couple guys stopped and helped me get the tire down.

Well, you've given me pause. Next vehicle I get, I'll make sure I can get at the spare easy enough. I've changed more than one.

That is why I always mount my spares military style inside the pick up beds or on after market tailgate swing arm mounts if the SUV didn't come with one stock.
