Lots of Shelter Ideas for emergencies..

I found this on another forum I frequently read, and thought it would be a good idea for those here in case you get stuck out somewhere or need to leave in a hurry:

also if you do a bing search on survival shelters, you will get this:

Way cool bunch of shelters that can be made of materials found out in the woods, natural locations, etc.

Just remember, it's just as important to have something UNDER you as it is to have a roof over your head. You'll stay warmer and be more comfortable if you're not on the bare ground.

That is true. I think the page illustrates a lot of different ways one can use a tarp for cover.

I really like the Bing images of survival shelters. So many different options!

Oh I dunno. I deeply enjoy sitting or laying on bare ground, not to mention just happily standing on it.

I was reading on another forum where some thought that it was more important to have something under you than over. This of course would be under normal weather condtions and not wet weather or severe wind.

The raw earth will pull your body heat downwards and out, but a thick blanket or comforter or sleeping bag will solve that problem. Many of the tribes would just put down a buffalo robe and sit and sleep on top of that.

Dry leaves are a great insulator, I have slept on top of a pile of dry leaves and stayed very warm.

Other insulators are cedar branches or other evergreen branches. I find it amazing the different types of shelters people have made using natural materials.

We are certainly a creative bunch when we have to be!
