Gas Shortage looming?

Has anybody noticed any problems with gasoline other than the fact that it is going up in price? I read this over on Time Bomb and it seemed very odd.

The broken oil pipeline in Wisconsin was turned back on this past Tuesday so that problem is resolved. Now whether they lower the prices or not is another story.

I honestly doubt that there has ever been a "real" gas shortage. I tend to believe it is all simply price manipulation. Even back in the days of Carter and the embargo, I doubt we were in a true shortage situation. We probably had enough back then too with our own supplies.

Just drove from Texas where gas was $3.29 to Minnesota where gas is $3.79 (we're on vacation right now) 50 cents higher up here? I'm figuring state taxes for the reason.

There may be regional issues when a refinery burps. The traders will use that as an excuse to drive the price up all across the country. In reality we're still exporting gasoline. In West Virginia gasoline comes either from refineries in Kentucky, the terminals served by barge near Charleston or sometimes the seller sends a tanker to Roanoke to get gasoline from the pipeline that moves it from the Gulf states into the Southern, Southeastern and lower Mid-Atlantic states.

There's plenty of gasoline.

We're exporting gasoline... doesn't that say everything? There is no shortage of oil or refined products... there may be localized delivery problems, that'd cause shortages>price increases.

Never let your tank get below 1/2, best to top it off regularly... just as easy to keep a full tank as to put a few gallons at a time in an empty one........... and if/when Iran/Israel get it on, you'll be able to drive at least for a few days. The prices will jump dollars at a time, if they get crazy.

After dropping slightly, then leveling off for a few weeks, DH says he saw that local diesel was around 4.00 again when he ran to town today. I personally can't see the price of fuel ever dropping, it just climbs at a slower rate sometimes!

We've been able to cut our fuel bill about in half the past few months as we just don't go to town as much. And when we do we have multiple errands and make the most of it.

Look at the profits for the top 4/5 oil companies. Look at the tax breaks they get. I dont think that oil shortage is the problem, more like oil deregulation that happened during the Regan year.
